“Jumping the string” causes many whitetail deer to live another day because archers fail to understand just how significant this reaction can be. One school of thought has the deer actually seeing the arrow coming and ducking its path. Personally, I believe it’s the natural reaction of a deer to a sudden noise. As part of the flight response, a deer drops lower to the ground to tense its muscles for an immediate bound to safety. Savvy archers always aim low in the shoulder, anticipating this reaction. If the deer ducks, the shaft still strikes the lungs for a quick demise. The ultra-slow motion of this video is very effective.
