Most hunting seasons are closed in the U..S, allowing females to birth and raise their young, part of the North American wildlife management model. Yet in the Southern Hemisphere in countries such as New Zealand, hunting season is in full swing.

I’ve hunted “way down south” on three occasions, and each time was an absolute thrill. New Zealand is special because there are no game laws — no limits, no seasons, and virtually no regulations regarding game animals. If you have some offbeat methods such as hunting with a handgun, unique rifle, hand-loaded caliber, or special bow, you can be assured it’s legal in New Zealand. You can fly from a hot humid United States to a cool winter climate and have the hunt of your lifetime.
