For decades, blaze orange has been used in the outdoors for extended visibility and increased hunting safety. I’ve peeked over a mountain in Colorado and instantly spotted another hunter a mile away on a distant mountain thanks to the blaze orange color.

Although blaze orange increases visibility, so do other colors, such as the blaze pea green worn by many emergency service personnel.

Since women are the fastest growing segment of the hunting population, many are saying, why not blaze pink?

If one Louisiana legislator gets her way, hunting enthusiasts will have a new safety color option: They can wear fluorescent pink instead of sticking only to the traditional, blazing-orange vests and hats that dominate hunting season.

Louisiana law requires anyone hunting wildlife during open gun season to display at least 400 square inches of “hunter orange” as a safety precaution. Orange hats also can be worn to satisfy the requirement.
