The alarm snort… it’s the worst sound a deer hunter can hear.

Usually it means that a deer has seen you move or worse, picked up your scent. Both bucks and does use the alarm snort to warn other animals in the area of danger — you.

This clip is short but amazingly detailed. Hunters should notice the deer’s ear positioning, the white hair flair of its tail, and the alarmed body language, such as the stamping and stiffness. This deer could be responding to a fawn bawl or other deer cry for help as it runs toward the camera. A deer at this level of alarm will likely “jump the string” of a bowshot, since the slightest sound will cause it to react.

Absolutely one of the worst sound us hunters all dread hearing!
