A one-shot kill is the goal of every hunter whether using an arrow or center-fire gear.

The next level is to disabilitate the animal instantly, to the point that it collapses in its tracks. Sometimes such a shot placement is a bit of luck, while other hunters shoot for that result by aiming at the base of an animal’s neck.

At close range with a solid rest, this is a good means of anchoring game on the spot, yet at longer distances the aim need only vary a small margin to miss.
