Mama Bear and Cub Struggle to Scale Cliff [VIDEO]


Young wild animals must travel a gauntlet of threats to survival, often from predators, illness, or bad weather. As you’ll see in this incredible video, sometimes just keeping up with mom is the biggest challenge. Stephanie Latimer shot this video while kayaking and nervously roots on the cub from a distance. A group of kayakers spotted a strange sight while visiting Big Bend National Park in Texas: two black bears climbing up a sheer cliff. The animals were attempting to scale one side of the Santa Elena Canyon, a popular tourist spot due to its good paddling opportunities.

While black bears may not be as renowned for their climbing skills as sheep — or humans, for that matter — bears can readily scale trees and even cliff walls.
