Many of America’s most successful hunters are aggressive. They don’t just wait for a big buck to walk by; they’ll take specific steps to lure a deer into range by using calls, lures, rattling, and other rut tricks. One time-proven method is to make a mock scrape that will convince a buck that competition is in its area or that estrous does may be visiting. Fortunately, constructing a mock scrape requires only basic tools, and can be done quickly once the proper site has been selected. Any scrape site from the previous year is a good place to begin, since deer often scrape the same location year after year. This video clip from Mathews Archery tells you how:
