Watch Now: Incredible Video of Mountain Lion Fishing [VIDEO]

422

Mountain lions are known for being stealthy, powerful predators that prey upon deer, coyotes, raccoons, and other animals. Because they mainly stalk their prey at night or in the low light of early morning, footage of mountain lions has been scarce. That is, until Montana Fish, Wildlife, and Parks (FWP) captured the first known video of a mountain lion fishing in Montana.

“I’ve never heard of a mountain lion fishing,” Montana FWP Bear Manager Jamie Jonkel said. “There are fishing cats in South America, they will dive in and grab fish out of the water. And it may be pretty common in places like Alaska and Vancouver. But I did a quick search, and couldn’t find anything on mountain lions fishing around here. This may be the only time in Montana that I know of where it’s been documented.”
